Welcome to our Spring edition:

Our Family Storybook’s welcomes you to our spring edition newsletter. In this edition we are introducing two additonal members of our design team. They have made considerable contributions to the development of Our Family Storybook, and are excited to contribute to the development of a website they believe will enhance the Genealogy community.

Annette Dwyer

Licensed Cosmetologist
Floral Designer
Graphic Artist
Family Historian

My name is Annette McDonald Dwyer.

Over the years I’ve taken many genealogy classes and seminars. One special genealogy class that I still signup for each quarter is at the South Seattle College in Washington state, where Tom Lyon and I met. We were sitting next to each other when we started visiting and found out that we had the same interests in genealogy and web design.

Before long, Tom told me about his idea of building a website for genealogist that didn’t know how to write code, but wanted to put their research securely on the web. The more he talked about it the more excited I got, especially when he asked me to be one of his designers.

I've been working on the themes for about a year and we are just about ready to add them to the site. We are working on various themes from nationalities, a book theme, special interests and many other ideas for future themes.

We welcome suggestions from you on theme ideas. Once you've had a chance to use the web application to build your site, tell us about enhancements you'd like to see or how we can help you customize a theme to your needs.

We are looking forward to seeing your research on your very own Our Family Storybook website theme.

Paula Maratea

Fine Art Painter
Programmer,
Graphic Designer

My background is in Fine Art with an emphasis on painting. Convincing my father I could make a living as a painter, I became a house painter after graduating with my BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University.  From there I became restless with living in the “Fan”, a historical area in Richmond Virginia, and went back to VCU to pursue a Baccalaureate Certificate in Information Systems.  This was the first type of class at the time for people like me who cower at the thought of performing a mathematical function, but nevertheless appreciates the complexities and wonders of science.  I landed a job and moved to the west coast.

I worked for twelve years as a computer programmer/analyst for a medical data services company in southern California. During the time I worked as a computer geek I began to play with digital graphics and bought myself an Amiga!  Today I am using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and am studying various programming languages to find out which one I am most drawn to, (excuse the pun).

After raising a fantastic family and moving across country several times, I began painting again, and to exhibit my work publicly at Gallery 110, a not for profit gallery in Seattle’s Pioneer Square Art district.  I was also the gallery’s Director from 2011-2014 where I managed the space, promotions and workflow.

It is at this time that I have begun to work with Tom as an intern for Our Family Storybook.  This position has allowed me to take advantage of hands on experience in website design, development and entrepreneurship, as well as working on a really cool application.  I am testing the site and consulting on user interfaces as well as supplying design graphics.  It is exciting to see this concept come to life and I am really happy to be part of it.
