Captain. Roland Lamar Hoffer

After a long fight with illness, kidney failure removed him from this world, on June 27, 2015, in LaCenter Washington.  Born in Athens, Georgia, he revealed his talents as he grew.  With an extreme intellect and outstanding athletic talent he became a hometown hero.  Lee had a choice of full scholarships from five major universities and chose to join the Army.   Before heading to Vietnam, he went through OCS and quickly became a Captain.  While in Vietnam he earned many medals, including the nations highest honor, "The Distinguished Flying Cross" later the "Medal of Honor".  Following his time in the service, he went back to the land, Surveying, later caring for thoroughbred race horses.  His second marriage to Gail, and her three boys, changed his life for the better.  He lived happily, back in the La Center countryside, until he passed away.  He is survived by his wife Gail, her two remaining sons Blaine and Alison, as well as Roy and Melissa and her two boys Sammy and Zak.  Also by his oldest son Allen and his wife Terri Lynn, his two daughters Deanne and Missy, and Missy's partner Liam. Along with six other grandsons: Michael, Jerick, Adrian, Jeremy, Nicholas and Jacob, one granddaughter, Camille, and one great granddaughter, Chloe.   The military service will be held Jan. 8, 2015 at Noon, in the Willamette National Cemetery.  Special thanks to the Community Hospice.  Donations can either be given to the family or to the Community Hospice.
